General Manager

Why this role exists

As the team grows past the founder's span of attention, somebody has to run the week. We want an operator who holds every function to its number and keeps the founder on the two things only he can do.

What done looks like in 90 days

  1. The weekly operating review runs on your agenda with every function reporting one page.
  2. The monthly close happens on a date, with the bookkeeper, without the founder.
  3. You have retired at least one process that was not earning its keep.

What you'll do

  • Own the weekly operating review across sales, coaching, content and community.
  • Run the monthly close with the bookkeeper and prepare the investor update.
  • Hire and manage the operations team as it forms.
  • Hold every system to its number and retire the ones that do not earn their keep.

Who you'll work with

You report to Derek and every function lead reports their numbers to you.

What we look for

Must have
  • You have run operations for a small company or a business unit with P&L accountability.
  • You are comfortable being the adult in the room while agents do much of the work.
  • You write the memo before the meeting.
Nice to have
  • Marketplace or education operations.
  • You have worked with a founder through a financing.
